Tangled (2010) :
General Plot Overview: The magically long-haired Rapunzel has spent her entire life in a tower, but now that a runaway thief has stumbled upon her, she is about to discover the world for the first time, and who she really is.
Yesterday, in the midst of a hangover that had left me feeling very tired, vunerable, weak and generally useless, I watched Tangled (2010). And goddarnit I cannot stop watching this movie. We used to have it recorded on our Sky box, and I swear, I watched this movie everyday for about a fortnight (my roommates can vouch for this – they’d come home to find me wrapped up in a blanket, tears in ears and blissfully singing away!) I just couldn’t stop watching! The animation is absolutely stunning. Rapunzel (voiced by Mandy Moore) has the expected long, flowing hair, and the movement and lighting design on it is just unbelievable. They’ve really out-done themselves on this one; there is so much detail and so many simple, yet lovely, little movements, I swear I notice something else I like it every time
On top of the breathtakingly beautiful animation, the characters are simply adorable – not your usual sickly sweet Disney stereotypes, they actually have a little bit of depth to them. For example, Gotham, the ‘bad-guy’ of the movie has a fantastically hideous personality – it’s really subtle, but it’s impossible not to hate her.
And the animals are hilarious, I don’t know what it is about that damn horse that makes me giggle like a total idiot, but I just can’t stop myself! They have so much character and emotion in their faces that I just can’t help but watch with a big dopey grin on my face. The music is fantastic and catchy, the script is witty and captivating and it is heart warming to the point of tears every time! I cannot fault this movie. In fact, I’m going to have to watch it again…
I watched Jersey Girl yesterday..
It was actually not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I didn’t really know anything about it and I was expecting it to be all about a woman being womanly and other stuff that women do in rom-coms (e.g. hate men, love men, cry over men, win men back etc.). It was pretty average to be honest, as most rom-coms are, but in saying that, it was at the better end of the rom-com list and quite heart warming. Ben Affleck was a bit shit, but he always is. I don’t really know what it is about him, he just always seems to give the impression that he thinks he’s a bit too good to put too much effort into acting. He’s always a bit grumpy and serious about things, like he wouldn’t be any fun to hang out with. It was vaguely funny in places, but not hilarious and it was very moving in places but not nearly tear jerking and of course, there was the essential cameo from MAARRRTTT DAAYYYMOOOONN (Matt Daimon)). Very watchable and perfect for an easy nights watching..
Law Abiding Citizen
I have just finished watching Law Abiding Citizen..
Bah. I was really expecting this film to be the tits! Like it would be a bit like the Saw films, but not quite as dark and moody and gory and shit. I thought it was going to be really clever but it just wasn’t. The main guy, Gerard Butler, was pretty good in it (surprisingly good, actually, seeing as he’s set up camp in rom-com city) but everybody else was just a bit lame (for lack of a better word) and it just felt all a bit crap. Like.. like they’d thought of a really good idea but just couldn’t be bothered to do it all properly. The storyline was pretty good really, it was all complicated and a bit twisty-turny, but not really enough for it to be great. After the first few surprises it all got a bit samey..
A bit disappointing, but not utterly pants. Still worth the watch, I say!
